Our Story

H.A.L.T. Substance Use Educational Services, Inc. opened in February 2017 and was founded by Jaynee Nelson. Jaynee has spent several years working in the field of substance use and mental health, helping individuals and their families navigate recovery and healing.

In 2026, H.A.L.T. is expanding its services to better meet the growing needs of the community by increasing prevention education, family support programming, and access to recovery resources for youth and families impacted by substance use disorders. This expansion reflects H.A.L.T.’s continued commitment to strengthening families, improving community health, and providing meaningful support for those in need.

Our Staff
Bonnie Johnson - Executive Director

Bonnie Johnson serves as the Executive Director of H.A.L.T. Substance Use Educational Services, Inc., bringing extensive experience developing, implementing, and sustaining programs that support individuals and families impacted by substance use and the justice system. She holds dual Bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice and Sociology from Cameron University and a Master’s degree in Native American Leadership from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Bonnie is a Notary Public for the State of Oklahoma and a Certified Trauma Support Specialist. Her work focuses on addressing substance use, trauma, and family stability through evidence-based and culturally responsive approaches. She is committed to helping individuals and families build resilience, access treatment and recovery resources, and achieve long-term stability.

Jaynee Marie Nelson - Clinical Director

Jaynee Marie Nelson is the Founder and Clinical Director of H.A.L.T. Substance Use Educational Services, Inc. She holds dual licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) in Oklahoma. She is certified to conduct DUI assessments and facilitate 10- and 24-hour DUI (ADSAC) education programs and also provides clinical services as a contracting therapist for mental health and substance use treatment agencies in the Lawton area. Jaynee earned her Master of Human Relations in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Oklahoma, a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Louisiana, and a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Cameron University. She began her career in public education before transitioning into counseling, where she found her passion for supporting individuals and families impacted by substance use and mental health challenges, with a focus on trauma-informed and culturally responsive care.
